The Senses and the Reality Beyond
The Deception of the Senses and the Reality Beyond
In our world today, there is a growing reliance on empiricism and physicalism—the belief that all knowledge is derived from sensory experience, and that reality is solely made up of what we can see, touch, hear, taste, and smell. While these ideologies may provide a framework for understanding the physical world, they fall short of capturing the fullness of life.
Life is more than just tangible matters but matters beyond what our mere senses—sense. As believers in YAHUAH and His Word, we are called to understand that our existence goes far beyond what the natural eye can perceive. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12, KJV).
This verse reveals that the battles we face are not merely physical but spiritual, in realms that our senses cannot detect. What we see, smell, hear, touch, and taste is only a small portion of what is truly going on in the world and in the heavens. Even our senses, which we rely on so heavily, can deceive us. How many times have you thought you were smelling chicken, only to find out it was fried fish?
Or perhaps you thought you heard your name called by your child, only to realize it was a phantom cry—a sound your mind conjured out of thin air. The Bible also warns us of the fallibility of our senses: "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9, KJV). If our heart, the seat of our emotions and perceptions, can deceive us, then surely our senses can lead us astray as well. Christ, Himself, was made "a little lower than the angels" (Hebrews 2:9, KJV), emphasizing that we, too, exist on a lower plane compared to the higher spiritual beings. Yet, even in this state, we are called to live with an awareness of the divine reality that surpasses the physical. This world is but a shadow of the true essence of life—the spiritual realm, the Kingdom of YAHUAH, where the eternal and the divine dwell.
Let us not be deceived by the surface level of what we perceive. Let us seek the deeper, spiritual truths that can only be revealed through the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit), for as it is written, "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:18, KJV). We must constantly remind ourselves that what we sense in this world is not the full story. It is fleeting and limited, but the things of YAHUAH are eternal, true, and enduring. As we navigate through life, let us not trust solely in our senses, but instead, let us look beyond them to the spiritual truths that guide our path and reveal the fullness of life.
